What’s new in the 2022 iPad Pro?

As is often the case, before the launch of the iPad Pro, many rumors circulated about what would come in the new generation. Many of them (like the MagSafe connectivity, glass back, and Mini-LED technology on the 11″ model) turned out to be fake.

It’s a more modest update, but just as interesting.

The headline feature is, of course, the introduction of Apple’s latest and greatest chipset, the M2. The M2 chip in the new range features a larger and 15% faster 8-core CPU than the M1, plus a 10-core GPU with 35% more performance.

It also has a more powerful 16-core Neural Engine, capable of processing 15.8 trillion operations per second, which is a 40% increase in performance, allowing the faster performance of artificial intelligence-based functions. , such as object selection in image editing applications.

16GB of Unified Memory

Add to that up to 16GB of Unified Memory (RAM) which Apple says makes multitasking and working with large assets a faster and more responsive experience.

The power of the M2 is primarily geared toward creatives, tailored to those with workflows that require a lot of processing power, whether you’re a photographer editing many photos at once or a graphic designer creating 3D models on the tablet.

There’s also a new media engine and ISP, enabling iPad Pro to capture ProRes video for the first time, and it’s 3x faster at transcoding ProRes material, ideal for on-the-fly editing.

This is combined with support for Wi-Fi 6e, with download speeds of up to 2.4 Gb/s, twice as fast as the previous iPad Pro range. Cellular models are also compatible with more 5G networks around the world, allowing access to fast connectivity wherever 5G is available.

There’s also a new Apple Pencil experience with the floating pointer powered by the new tablet and by iPadOS 16. Compatible with the second-generation Apple Pencil, the new range of tablets has the ability to detect Apple Pencil up to 12mm away. to give users a preview, providing a more accurate drawing experience on the tablet.

iPadOS 16

Other improvements come in the form of iPadOS 16, which is push back from its original schedule release in September to October 24.

The main feature you’ll be able to take advantage of on iPad Pro is the Visual Organizer, a new multitasking system that offers a more Mac-like experience, with apps that open in mobile windows.

It will also support a full external display to help users organize their workspace and take full advantage of the software and hardware offered by this range of high-end tablets.

Apart from this, there are not many other differences with the previous model. The Mini-LED display remains exclusive to the larger 12.9-inch iPad Pro, though both have other pro features like 120Hz variable refresh rate, Face ID support, Image-Center Framing technology, and more. The front camera and rear cameras are equipped with LiDAR sensors.
