What could be a smartphone for $330 USD in 2022? The Xiaomi Redmi 10C details don’t matter! However, it must definitely fulfill all his tasks.
Xiaomi Redmi 10C Review
A good HD screen, a plastic case, a large battery, and a few compromises on other fronts are the unchanging formula for creating Xiaomi Redmi 10C an inexpensive smartphone. The success of the model largely depends on the degree of compromise and price.
I propose to explore the Xiaomi Redmi 10C based on Snapdragon 680 from this point of view. The novelty starts from $330 USD for the 64 GB version, and for $345 USD you can find a modification with 128 GB.

The design of the Redmi10C is without frills, as an inexpensive smartphone should be. The texture of the matte back cover refers to carbon fiber. Simple, beautiful, and not as slippery as a smooth gloss. Also on such plastic, there are no small scratches and scuffs. But the soiling of the black version is in question, prints from wet hands have to be washed with microfiber from time to time.
Matte ends are integral to the lid. There is a smooth transition between them, which does not dig into the hand. The display is located on a prominent ledge – this is an essential attribute of low-cost smartphones. But the layout of the keys is classic – they are all on the right side.
The Redmi affiliation defines a massive glossy unit that houses a dual camera and a fingerprint scanner. He, though slightly, still protrudes beyond the body. It is strange why it was impossible to embed the camera flush.
But Xiaomi Redmi 10C, unlike many other inexpensive smartphones, is not perceived as a fat giant. This is a merit of rounded shapes, a moderate thickness of 8.29 mm, and a weight not exceeding 190 grams. Grasping with such a palm is not a problem, although it is difficult to use with one hand, since the width of the case exceeds 76 mm.
Large IPS 6.71 inches has a relatively modest resolution of 1650 × 720 pixels and a standard frequency of 60 Hz. Nothing special by the standards of an inexpensive model, and there is nothing to complain about. Around the perimeter is a rather big frame with a wide chin below. Although all the corners are rounded, the device does not try to flirt with frame lessness.
The advantage of Xiaomi Redmi 10C is in the little things that they did not save on. The screen resists the sun well thanks to the polarizing filter. And the tempered glass is coated with an oleophobic coating, which greatly improves usability. A competitor in the face of Realme, for some unknown reason, ignores this trifle. But there is no regular protective film, as well as a complete cover. Thrifty users should think about protection in advance.
Three display profiles, color temperature adjustment, dark mode, night mode with a slightly warmer palette, and font size change. It has all the usual settings for Android. And the scale is hidden in the accessibility section. If you can’t find some settings in MIUI, feel free to use the search.
Xiaomi Redmi 10C Camera
The main camera is represented by a 50 MP sensor with f / 1.8 optics and a 2 MP auxiliary depth sensor. Under ideal conditions, good shots with precise focus are obtained. The feeling of high detail is largely achieved by increasing the sharpness and texture of the camera software. Because of this, when approaching, a characteristic graininess is visible. There is no hybrid double zoom, although the resolution of the main sensor allows it to be arranged.
The work of HDR is noteworthy. This effect accurately works in automatic mode and copes even with very intense backlight from a bright sun. Although still not worth photographing against the sun, elongated shadows in the darkest areas do not look very natural. Below is the gallery, the first frame of the series was taken without HDR and the second with HDR.
Night shots also suffer from excessive noise, although the ISO value in EXIF is not high. The finished shots from the night street in automatic mode are somewhat reminiscent of watercolor due to the complete lack of detail.
Night mode, which takes a photo in 3-4 seconds, helps out, but even such a picture cannot be called high-quality. Below is the gallery, the first frame is in auto, and the second is in night mode.
The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels and f / 2.2 optics. On the screen of a smartphone, the pictures look good, but on a large monitor, the flaws of not very fast optics become noticeable. The declared HDR support is rather for the sake of the show since the difference between the pictures is not obvious. Portrait mode precisely separates the background and creates a natural blur.
Depth of field can be changed after the fact from the gallery. It is possible to replace the background, but the suggested presets are not very effective.
Xiaomi Redmi 10C Software and hardware
Xiaomi’s proprietary shell needs no introduction. In this case, MIUI 13 is based on Android 11 in Xiaomi Redmi 10C. You should not worry about a stale system, as the company significantly modifies the interface and redraws the standard functionality. This is partly the reason for its success, MIUI offers a unique style, rich functionality, and detailed customization. For example, this time I noticed the most convenient option was to rotate a picture with a simple two-finger gesture. And such trifles in the shell can not be counted.
The problem is native advertising, intrusive notifications from standard applications, and possible data collection. I could not find obvious gaps in notifications, but they may appear with the addition of new options. Here I was confused by the third keyboard, installed by default, with Chinese.
During the first setup, you are prompted to install sponsored apps from the GetApps directory. There are also enough pre-installed ones – only about 2 dozen. Although the Russian package is presented in the form of labels for self-download.
Also, I personally do not like the countdown in MIUI before trying to change any more or less sensitive system settings. Installing from unknown sources, adding a password, resetting the device, and other platitudes will be accompanied by a huge warning that simply cannot be ignored.
The hardware pleased, the Snapdragon 680 is on board, which is the de facto base chip in the Qualcomm line. However, paired with an HD screen, the single-chip does not give itself away: the interface flies, there are no failures in multitasking in Xiaomi Redmi 10C, and toys on average graphics work smoothly. I spent a couple of nights in the arcades (Traffic Racer, Into the Dead, Subway Surfers) and didn’t notice a single problem. These, of course, are not top games, but they also load the hardware and show its suitability.
The best part is the lack of heat and stable performance over a long distance. A thin 6 nm manufacturing process and relatively low clock frequencies no higher than 2.4 GHz exclude throttling. Only 55 minutes after the start of the CPU Throttling Test, the smartphone allows a decrease in performance by only 11%.
In the 64 GB version, only 42.6 GB are available to the user, which is explained by the heavy system, which occupies more than 18 GB. Also, It’s not about a large number of third-party applications, they take up additional space. A triple tray for two nano sims and a memory card makes it possible to save money on purchases and store multimedia on a USB flash drive. However, for the sake of comfort, you should prefer the option with 128 GB. The amount of RAM in both cases is 4 GB, and this is the minimum comfortable level for today. Pay attention to the rubberized gasket on the tray: of course, moisture protection is not declared for Xiaomi Redmi 10C but the engineers took care of such a trifle.
Almost the key point for which to praise is a full-fledged infrared proximity sensor without software substitutes. In Xiaomi Redmi 10C they saved on other sensors – an electronic compass and a gyroscope. Without them, walking navigation is difficult, since the smartphone is not able to determine and show where it is directed – orientation in space has to be checked against visual landmarks. There are no problems with orienteering in a car, drivers will not notice the difference. Everything else is no surprise. The vibration motor is noisy with an eccentric, but the quality of its tuning is on top. The sound from the only speaker is moderately loud.
Xiaomi Redmi 10C Battery and Charging
The 5000 mAh battery, HD screen, and economical Snapdragon 680 guarantee impressive autonomy. And so it turns out: in our test, Redmi 10C lasted almost 21 hours, but in real life, you can count on two days of work in a stressful mode. Thrifty users will forget about charging for all 3 days.
Speaking of which, a 10W charger is included, suitable only for night charging, since it takes about 5-6 hours to replenish the battery. Support for fast Power Delivery and Qualcomm Quick Charge with full size 18W USB gives you the ability to charge in 2 hours.
Xiaomi Redmi 10C Review after two weeks of use
Smartphones cheaper than Redmi 10C exist, but it is our hero that should be considered as a base – the best device on a modest budget. Productive iron without overheating, a beautiful shell, a practical case, and a good screen with an oleophobic coating – there are no fatal simplifications among the main characteristics.
Although I was surprised by the lack of an electronic compass and gyroscope, I have not seen savings on these little things for a long time. In other inconspicuous little things, Xiaomi Redmi 10C has nothing to brag about: the camera is the simplest, the vibration is noisy, and there is simply no second microphone for noise reduction. However, all this is a trifle, given the positioning. The mass audience needs a strong unpretentious smartphone for little money, Redmi 10C is one of them.
- Practical body with carbon fiber texture;
- Tempered glass with oleophobic coating;
- The sloping body fits comfortably in the hand;
- Successful Snapdragon 680 without throttling;
- Infrared proximity sensor.
- MIUI has too many intrusive notifications and ads;
- Lack of an electronic compass and gyroscope;
- Fast charger not included.
May not like:
- Lack of a second microphone;
- Lack of a cover on a set and a film on the screen.
